“Rent-Free”
Client: Few Faces
“Rent-Free” is a single from Few Face’s second EP, “Play Pretend.” It is an upbeat Pop-Punk song and to compliment that, I used some lively forms of kinetic typography.
In the first verse, you see footage of the band delivering their merchandise to fans during the quarantine in 2020. I thought this was special, and I didn’t want the lyrics to distract the audience from that footage. Their manager suggested for this verse, I should make the lyrics appear in real-time as an SMS text message. I was pleased with the results.
For the rest of the song, some of the typography was inspired by lyric videos I’ve seen from Hopeless Records, Fearless Records and Fueled By Ramen LLC. I used to watch hours of these lyric/music videos growing up.
